Taking to the Skies

Steve Loures - Commercial Multi-Engine and Instrument rated pilot.

IMG_4219.JPG

I experienced my first intro flight on October 7th, 1988 at the age of 22 at the Marlboro New Jersey airport designated 2N8 for us pilots. A small runway of only 2200 feet with a classic luncheonette right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Marlboro airport is long gone but these memories remain. After that first flight I was hooked. 36 years later I still feel the same hook.

CHECK OUT MY ACTUAL LOGBOOK ENTRY BELOW FROM 36 YEARS  AGO.

Taking off from Marboro December 1989 for a New York City Hudson River corridor flight. Onboard was Carol McCartin, Mom and my brother Gary. After that incredible experience the ladies were all giddy and my brother gave me a hearty handshake with big smiles in his eyes. This picture sits on my desk and I’ve kept it for over 36 years. It felt good then and it feels good now.

It wasn’t long until the acceptance letter arrived from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I packed my bags and immersed myself into all-day everyday  aviation.

Ken McCartin has a lot of flight hours with me in multiple airplanes. He is by far my favorite copilot of all time. He took this Kodak moment picture in 1989 at Bader Field Atlantic City on one of our let's go flying pursuit of adventure trips. We just wanted to win enough money to pay for the fuel and a cold beer after we got back!
